This Labor Day weekend, we had the pleasure of spending a hilariously fun time with friends at Wolf River Resort and Marina on Dale Hollow Lake in Albany, KY. Dale Hollow straddles the Tennessee/Kentucky state line and as you spend the day boating, you will cross back and forth between the two states many times. Our friends own a permanent park model trailer at the resort on "Level Two" and we camped in our motorhome on RV site #8. Though it is quite walkable between the two, we used golf carts to go back and forth - mostly because it was fun - not because it was too far to walk. The resort is a no-frills campground - not really an RV resort per se. There is no pool, hot tub, etc., as you typically find in RV resorts. This place has a "vintage" feel that focuses on the lake and boating. There is a large marina/dock with many boat slips and a launch ramp, as well as a dock store and gas station that also sells essentials like ice. Our RV site was right on the water. The sites are tight together, but you aren't really there to camp on your site anyway, as this is more of a boating place. We only used our site to sleep and spent all of our daylight hours on the water. This resort also rents various types of boats for fishing and recreation, as well as houseboats.
Sites were somewhat shady and ours had a picnic table. Some sites had fire rings that seemed to be shared between sites. We spent our evenings up on Level Two in our friend's permanent site at their fire ring. For this holiday weekend, they had karaoke every night, but remember this is southern KY/TN and expect to hear a lot of country/bluegrass music (much of it old school). I believe my daughter's words were: "Do you think they'll play anything from this century?" To her delight, some kids did at least sing a Meghan Trainor song, but when the boys in our group asked to sing "Uptown Funk" they were turned away because the DJ didn't have it :)
The RV section was quiet and people seemed to observe the quiet hours well. People were friendly and the setting was serene at night and bustling on the water by day with lots of boats coming and going. The lake was alive with activity - water skiing, tubing, wake-boarding, cliff-jumping, and so on. For the price, you can't beat the location and fun.
The restrooms were ok. My daughter and her friend took showers in the shower house and said the coin showers were confusing because for 50-cents, they ran for over 20 minutes and never shut off, nor could they really adjust the temp. My daughter's shower was so hot she couldn't finish in hers - she had to switch to her friend's shower (which was much cooler) to finish up. They said the shower houses weren't the cleanest they'd been in, but they were able to shower there without too much convincing. I personally like showering in our RV, so that's what I did, as did the hubby. Water pressure was fine from the site hookup.
Roads in the campground were gravel and kind of narrow. We saw several RVs - trailers and 5-ers, larger than ours and they seemed to do ok. Call if you are concerned about site length restrictions. This place is in the middle of nowhere - about 45 minutes from the town of Monticello, KY, but both GoogleMaps and the Waze App on my phone got us there with no problems at all. Screen shot the directions, because you will likely lose cell service near the end of your journey. While in camp on land, we never had Verizon service, but many of us did while on the water. Wifi is apparently available if you sit on the front steps of the office building. Our site was right behind the office and we did not pick up the wifi, but we didn't care because this was a holiday weekend and we were only there for fun - NO WORK!!!! If you like the water - go and have a blast on Dale Hollow Lake!
