This campground is located adjacent to the world-renowned Kentucky Horse Park. Camping here gets you fee parking at the Horse Park. There is also a bike/walking trail that connects the campground to the Park as well. The campground is a modern and well-kept campground that is clean and popular. It was nearly full when we were there for this late-April weekend.
Sites were a mix of shade and sun, although all of them had quite a bit of grassy area between them. The sites here are spaced out farther than most campgrounds we've ever visited. Actually, I think we've only been to one campground with wider sites and that was an ocean-front state park campground in Connecticut. We do want to note that when you make your online reservation, you need to check each site's description carefully because some are steeply sloped and require significant leveling of your RV!!!
The campground was quiet at night, and people seemed to observe the quiet hours well - except for the one site of campers who insisted on running their generator the ENTIRE weekend. Since these sites had electric hookup, we have NO idea why they had to run a generator, but since they were only a few sites away from us, it was quite annoying. We never saw any campground staff at all, but we were king of hoping they would tell the people to turn their generator off. Unfortunately, they didn't. Our site backed up to the basketball courts - which we liked because Ken is a basketball coach, so we liked watching the kids play. Others might find that location annoying and loud, so fair warning to you on that! People were friendly and on our evening walks we stopped and talked to few campers about their rigs and such.
The restrooms near our site were closed for renovation during our visit, but we use our on-board bathroom. I personally like showering in our RV, so that's what we did. Water pressure was fine from the site hookup.
Roads in the campground were paved and well maintained. This campground can handle everyone from primitive tent campers all the way up to 40 ft Class As towing (or that's at least how it appeared to us - check specific regulations before you go!) We saw several RVs - trailers and 5-ers, larger than ours (which is a 25 ft class C) and they seemed to do okay. Call if you are concerned about site length restrictions. This campground is pretty close to downtown Lexington, so we had strong cell service the entire time. We never needed or used the wifi, so we can't comment on that. If you need a place to camp in Lexington that's beautiful and convenient, give the horse park a try - and don't forget to enjoy the best of Kentucky while you are there, whether it's the bourbon, the basketball, or the horses!
